In a scary moment, Ginkel was hit on the inside of the left knee by a comebacker off the bat of Brandon Nimmo in the sixth inning on Saturday afternoon. Ginkel immediately dropped to the ground in pain before eventually limping off the field. X-rays taken were negative and, per manager Torey Lovullo, Ginkel avoided serious injury and is day to day.

June 1: OF scratched from lineup with flu-like symptoms
Gurriel originally was in the lineup hitting third and playing left field against the Mets on Saturday, but he was scratched due to flu-like symptoms, per manager Torey Lovullo, who was unsure whether Gurriel would be available off the bench. Jake McCarthy was inserted into the lineup in left field, while Randal Grichuk was bumped up to the No. 3 spot to replace Gurriel.

May 31: RHP (right hamstring strain) placed on 15-day IL; RHP recalled from Triple A Reno
Gallen, who exited after throwing six pitches against the Mets on Thursday, was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He traveled back to Phoenix the next day to have the injury examined by team doctors. It is the second time this year Gallen has had to leave a start due to his right hamstring. He will miss at least three starts during his time on the IL.

As for Cecconi, this is his second stint with Arizona this season. He will replace Gallen in the rotation, and was announced as Saturday's starter against the Mets following Arizona's loss Friday night. During his first stint with the D-backs, Cecconi made six appearances (five starts) and went 1-4 with a 6.12 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings.

OF (strained left hamstring)
Expected return: TBD
Thomas had been scheduled to come off the IL on May 7, but per manager Torey Lovullo, Thomas felt something in his injured left hamstring after playing in a rehab game for Triple-A Reno on May 5. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection to alleviate swelling on May 13. Thomas has begun taking live at-bats at the team’s Spring Training complex and is doing some light jogging.

Thomas injured his left hamstring when he grounded into a double play in the first inning on March 31 against the Rockies. He underwent an MRI exam on April 1 that showed a strain in the hamstring that was greater than a Grade 1, but not quite a Grade 2. (Last updated: May 24)
