Sept. 19: RHP (right pec tightness) exits
With his velocity down from its season norms, Cousins was removed after throwing just six pitches in the sixth inning of Thursday afternoon's 3-2 loss against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. His final pitch was a swinging strikeout of Julio Rodríguez. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that no tests are planned for Cousins, who said that he has been managing tightness in his pectoral this week.

“I would say [on Sunday], I felt it during the game for the first time, where it wasn’t normal,” Cousins said. “Then, it developed into tightness. Over the last couple of days, it’s gotten a lot better, which is very encouraging to me. Today, I was able to throw, I just didn’t really necessarily want to let it eat. I knew I could try and get outs without it having to be in the mid-90s.”

Sept. 19: OF (left knee bruise) to undergo X-rays
Soto will undergo precautionary X-rays after bruising his left knee while making a sliding catch on a seventh-inning Jorge Polanco foul ball in the Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Mariners on Thursday. Soto received treatment after the game and said the knee “feels pretty good; not bad at all.” Asked if he expects to play on Friday at Oakland, Soto said that it would depend on how his knee feels in the morning. 10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

INF (right hip impingement)
Expected return: TBD
LeMahieu received a cortisone injection in his right hip on Sept. 12. He was placed on the 10-day IL on Sept. 9 (retroactive to Sept. 6). The Yankees are unsure if the veteran infielder will return this season, with manager Aaron Boone calling the chances of LeMahieu playing again in 2024 "unclear."

“I wouldn’t necessarily rule it out, but I wouldn’t count on it, either,” Boone said.

LeMahieu's hip issue was lingering for several weeks before he landed on the IL, affecting his ability to rotate his hips and generate power at the plate. LeMahieu said that surgery has not been discussed. (Last updated: Sept. 14)

Expected return: Possibly September
Brubaker began a Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 15.

“It’s good, because we thought we may lose him for the year,” manager Aaron Boone said. “So we’ll see how it goes. He certainly could be in the mix.”

Brubaker sustained an oblique injury while making a fielding play during his July 11 Minor League rehab start for the RailRiders and was shut down from baseball activities. Poteet is “really close” to returning to the big leagues, manager Aaron Boone said on Sept. 14, adding that the pitcher is “almost built up completely and is certainly in those conversations.”

After three outings with Double-A Somerset, Poteet has been rehabbing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he tossed four innings of one-run ball on Sept. 11 at Lehigh Valley. That 64-pitch outing marked his second Triple-A start during his rehab.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said the organization expects Poteet to be a potential depth piece late in the season. Poteet last pitched in the Majors on June 12 at Kansas City. (Last updated: Sept. 14)

Trivino had his Minor League rehab assignment transferred from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 29. Trivino has a 7.50 ERA over six innings in six relief appearances with the RailRiders.

Trivino’s recovery from Tommy John surgery performed in May 2023 was stalled by a bout with right elbow inflammation in April. (Last updated: Sept. 14)
