Sept. 18: 3B placed on paternity leave; INF recalled from Triple-A Sacramento
Chapman flew with the Giants to Baltimore but headed back to the West Coast before Tuesday’s opener against the Orioles to witness the birth of his daughter. The team officially placed Chapman on the paternity list on Wednesday and brought in Schmitt to replace him on the active roster.

Players get three days on paternity leave, lining Chapman up to rejoin the team on Sept. 21 in Kansas City at the latest.

Sept. 14: RHP reinstated from 15-day injured list; RHP optioned to Triple-A Sacramento
Hicks rejoined the Giants' bullpen after missing 18 games with right shoulder inflammation. The 28-year-old has recorded a 2.79 ERA over 9 2/3 innings since moving to the bullpen in late July. The Giants cleared a spot for Hicks by sending down Warren, who logged a 2.70 ERA over his first four Major League outings this year.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Late September
Rodríguez, 24, logged a 3.93 ERA over 33 Major League appearances before landing on the 15-day IL on Aug. 15 (retroactive to Aug. 14). He was diagnosed with a flexor strain and shut down for two weeks before resuming a throwing program on Sept. 3. He threw a 30-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on Sept. 12 and tossed another one on Sept. 15. (Last updated: Sept. 15)

LHP (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Late September
Ray's live batting practice session on Sept. 11 was cut short due to some fatigue, but he's been playing catch and threw another bullpen on Sept. 14. The 32-year-old veteran said he still hopes to make at least one start for the Giants before the end of the season.

Ray grabbed the back of his left leg after delivering a pitch against the Mariners on Aug. 25 at T-Mobile Park. An MRI exam revealed the hamstring strain, prompting the Giants to place him on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 27, retroactive to Aug. 26. Ray also missed the first half of the season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. (Last updated: Sept. 14)

LHP Kyle Harrison (left shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
An MRI on Sept. 5 revealed mild left shoulder inflammation, and the rookie was placed on the IL the following day. Considering where the season’s calendar is and that Harrison has thrown a career-high 124 1/3 innings, manager Bob Melvin said the lefty likely won’t pitch again this year. The 23-year-old ended his first full season in the big leagues with a 4.56 ERA over 24 starts for the Giants. (Last updated: Sept. 11)

60-DAY IL

C (left knee sprain)
Expected return: Possibly September
Murphy is continuing his rehab in San Francisco after he felt a pop in his knee after going down to try to block a wild pitch in the second inning of the Giants' 14-3 loss to the Phillies on May 4. He began a hitting and running progression on Aug. 17 and was scheduled to run the bases on Sept. 10-11.

Murphy was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 5, and an MRI exam revealed a Grade 1-2 sprain. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 15 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow backstop Curt Casali. Murphy visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on July 25 after experiencing inflammation behind his knee and in his hamstring. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left knee on July 30.

Signed to a two-year, $8.25 million deal in December, Murphy hit .118 with one home run over his first 13 games with the Giants. (Last updated: Sept. 10)

INF (right knee tendinitis)
Expected return: 2025
Flores will be out for the rest of the season, manager Bob Melvin announced on Aug. 6. The first baseman traveled to Los Angeles and underwent a Tenex procedure on his right knee with Dr. Steve Yoon on Aug. 6. He was placed on the injured list on July 25 (retroactive to July 24), after last appearing as a pinch-hitter on July 23 against the Dodgers. He had returned from the same injury on July 9. The Giants transferred him to the 60-day injured list on Aug. 16.

“He was fighting it all year and unfortunately, we're losing him for the rest of the year, which isn't ideal,” Melvin said. (Last updated: Aug. 17)

RHP (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Winn is continuing his rehab in San Francisco after undergoing season-ending right elbow surgery in Los Angeles on July 29. Dr. Steven Shin performed an ulnar nerve transposition, which takes pressure off the nerve by moving it from the back of the elbow to the front. The procedure is expected to have a two-month recovery process, which should allow him to be ready to go by Spring Training 2025.

Winn last pitched for the Giants on June 20, when he gave up five runs over 2 2/3 innings against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field. The 26-year-old rookie ended up logging a 7.16 ERA over 12 starts in an injury-marred campaign for San Francisco. (Last updated: Aug. 5)

CF (left shoulder dislocation)
Expected return: 2025
Lee suffered a season-ending torn labrum in his left shoulder crashing into the center-field fence on May 12 and had surgery on June 4. The club considered the procedure a success and said the typical timeline for recovery is six months. (Last updated: June 4)
