Dodgers recall Gus Varland

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Gus Varland and placed right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier on the injured list with a right calf strain, retroactive to April 28.

Varland, 27, returns for his third stint with the club. He is 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA in two games with the club. He has made 18 Major League appearances in two seasons with Milwaukee (2023) and Los Angeles (2023-24), going 1-1 with a 6.86 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 20.0 innings. He made nine appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 10.2 innings. He was originally drafted by the A’s in the 14th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Concordia University.

Brasier, 36, appeared in 12 games for the Dodgers, striking out 12 batters in 11.2 innings. He is in his second season with the Dodgers and he is a combined 2-0 with a 1.61 ERA in 51 games. The Texas native has been in the Majors parts of eight seasons with Los Angeles-AL (2013), Boston (2018-2023) and Los Angeles-NL (2023-24) and he is a combined 9-8 with a 3.91 ERA and 10 saves. He signed a two-year contract with the Dodgers on February 8, 2024.
